The Jacksonville Beach was abuzz with excitement this past Saturday at our annual Surf Event.
Close to 60 participants and a couple hundred volunteers turned out for the ocean-fueled day. Teaming up with Life Rolls On, an California non-profit which began in 2002, the Brooks staff and volunteers provided a safe and fun day for those who signed up to hit the waves.
Tents and a board walkway were set up on the sandy beach which provided shade and refreshments for the participants as they patiently awaited their turn to ride the surf. Adaptive beach wheelchairs were available as well for making the transition from the beach to the water as smooth as possible.
The Life Rolls On organization provided brightly colored wet suits, life jackets, and soft top surfboards, designed for various types of adaptations depending on levels functional use of extremities to make it easier for the participant to hold on and ride the waves. Friends and family cheered on their loved ones as they watched them enjoy the sand and surf, with bright smiles and lots of laughter.
